Wow, I have been here less than two weeks, and I've made two cakes already, and have 3 or 4 more to make between now and next Tuesday! I can't believe this. I waited so long to get cake orders in LA and here i can barely handle all my orders!
The only problem is that the only place I've found to get supplies is Michael's, and they are OUTRAGEOUS! The icing colors I usually pay 1.27 for are 2.89 here, tips and couplers are almost 2$ each, 1 featherweight bag is 9 or 10$, etc... and I need so many things, I'm not really making much profit on the cakes. Once I get a few things together I will be doing better though, and one lady at my sister's work may want me to make her daughter's wedding cake, so it will be worth it!

Maybe you could try some other places to buy online, like www.goldaskitchen.com to avoid customs fees. I'm sure there are more in Canada

Have you tried ebay? You can usually get anything you need there.

It is SOOOOOOOOOOO good to hear you vent!! That means you guys are ok and getting settled-as well as you can be under the circumstances I am sure!!! You can't compare apples to oranges (or in our case -decorator made to bakery!!)-you are in a total different area moneywise-and I am sure it will all fall into place once you are used to it again! How fortunate for you that your reputation follows you from LA to Canada!! You will knock their socks off I am sure!!

My sister gave me a digital camera she got free with a bed they bought, so as soon as I figure out how to compress my pics on here I will post pics of my cakes! Melissa
