I finally got a digital camera so hopefully it'll be easier now. I won't have to keep my fingers crossed and hope I didn't waste my money on film with crappy lit or out of focus cakes. So for all of you that have the knack at taking nice pictures of your cakes and such, do you have any good tips you'd like to share?
Yes, always put a pretty background like nice white fabric or tulle. Make sure there is tons of light, and of course, since you are on the computer, you can always adjust the lighting on the picture to see it better in a photo program. Maybe try different angles. I learned from Vik ...her website is www.outsideofthebox.ca She has the best photos of cakes I've seen so far!!
I have a really nice digital with all of the modes etc, but I've only used the automatic so far. If the color is off, I use Photofiltre to adjust the color and to add my name to the pic. Almost every pic needs some sort of enhancement to make it look "real to life". (at least mine do!)
I went out and bought a bunch of cheap fabric in different colors for my background.. I mostly use black because I think it really makes the cakes stand out.
..that's a really good idea. I need to work on my picture taking skills..I usually just take a picture of the cake as it sits on my counter.
You learn so much on CC!!!
I learned about covering the boards...now I've learned about taking pictures...I also just sit it on the table and click.
Thanks
The only problem I have is that when I take my cake pictures, the cakes are usually on the way out the door or already at the location (and I feel weird taking alot of pictures at the location). I don't have time or haven't even thought about "settiing up" the right background....I am just wanting to get a quick pick for my portfolio. I will need to schedule my time better so I can have a few moments to capture a great shot!!

TamiAZ...how do you set up your background? Do you hang your fabric? I have thought about doing that...but am not sure of the best way to get it all set up.
