Quick Pour Fondant? (And An Intro)
Decorating By Happygrl Updated 26 Sep 2005 , 12:54am by stephanie214
I'm doing a stand-up doll cake for a friend's DD's birthday in a couple weeks. I made a practice cake this week and used rolled fondant. It went MUCH better than I expected. My friend LOVED the cake. So I was planning to go with that until I started reading about quick-pour fondant. I've not found many reviews on it though. Is it easy to use? Difficult to get to *just* the right temp? Am I better off sticking with rolled fondant since I've had good luck with it?
(BTW--Quick intro: I'm Tricia, mama to an almost-one year old & wife to a DH who is *almost* home from a year in Iraq [coming home in a week!!]. I love to bake cakes but, as one friend puts it, "your cakes always look so bad but taste heavenly" (she's lucky I love her! LOL). And I agree--they rarely look good. So I'm starting to wander into the world of cake decoration instead of just slapping some frosting on 'em. I'm planning to take the Wilton courses after DH is home and, in the meantime, I've been doing a lot of self-teaching.)
I don't know much about poured fondant...but since regular fondant came out so good for you...why don't you make the cake with taht and next time practice with the poured fondant.
By the way.....May God watch over your DH and everyone else out there....safe return and welcome to CC...
WARNING!!!!!!
This site is extremely addicting.
Hi, welcome to CC. I would go with the rolled fondant since you enjoyed working with it and your friend loved it too.

DiH your cinderella dol is adorable...........great job ... Ill have to try it now...
Oh, gawsh. Thank you so much! My little neighborgirl luv'd it and still talks about it even tho' it's been probably 4-5 months since I did that cake.
Yes, give the quick pour a try... it's probably the fastest way there is of doing a doll skirt. Not to mention that my pouring skills are far more advanced than my spatula skills.
Isn't that the best thing about kids cakes is they never forget them! They talk about them all the time and are so appreciative! Di your cake is beautiful!
Happygrl I wish your hubby a safe and speedy return! And don't forget to post a photo of your cake!
Welcome to the CC family, Happygrl!!!
Wishing hubby a safe return and a salute for his service!!

Thanks for the welcomes! I'm definitely addicted already. Last night I finished reading all 60+ pages on the General Forum, I've finished the business one a couple days ago and now I'm working on the How Do I one.
And thanks for the info on poured fondant. The party is postponed another week so I have time to try this out!
