To prepare for opening a bakery/small cafe I am doing research on equipment. I found a very affordable space and it used to be a small restaurant so the set up is perfect...BUT there is no kitchen equipment.
What equipment do you need to start a bakery? What ovens are recommended for cake baking (deck, combi, etc)? I know I would need a dishwasher but what else am I missing? Do you recommend buying used? Also, are you aware of any grants for minority (women) owned businesses?

Good for you thumbs_up.gif
I'm jealous! Have you asked anyone at your local/county Health Dept for assistance? I got the Food Establishment packet from mine, and it details what kind of equipment, etc. will be accepted.

Thank you, I have the packet of info but don't remember reading anything about equipment, I'll look again.

I'm still looking for advice from those of you who have been in my shoes before. What worked out best for you? What is a necessity and what was a waste?

You could look for a auction house/company that specializes in restaruant closings. Theres one in the area here....I have been to a few of theirs. After attending and buying at one they now send me a flyer about up coming auctions in the city.
I take a restaruant supply catalog with me so I know what a new whatever would cost me. That way you will know if you are getting a good deal. Some things go really cheap and others not so much. Good luck.
