Can I Use A 6" Separator Plate For An 8" Tier?

I have only ever used SPS for my stacked cakes.
Now, I have nowhere locally to buy the pieces so I have had to order them online. It's worked fine except the cake I have this weekend- the company continually sent me a 12" plate when I ordered an 8".
Anyway, I'm freaking out a bit, as I only have 6" separator plates. I ordered an 8" last week from another company and paid extra for expedited shipping but alas, it is now saying it won't be here until the 16th.
Can you put an 8" round on cardboard and then onto a 6" separator plate? it's going onto a 12" round with no topper on it.
Thanks!
AIt should not be a problem. I do it all the time when I use odd size cake pans I always drop to an even size separator because I never seem to have an odd size that I need!
Thank you so much! I had this insane fear that the overlay was going to kill the cake! :) Hopefully the 8 inch will come in and it won't even be an issue.
