Hey everyone, I was hoping someone might have the answer to this question that's been haunting me forever and needs answering since we are starting to make more cakes. When I create a wedding cake for each tier I make (2) 2-inch layers that I torte in half so each tier has a total of 4 cake layers & 3 frosting layers.

For birthday cakes or single tier cakes I was thinking about just stacking the (2) 2-inch layers without torting. So in essence 2 cake layers and one frosting layer. I was wondering does anyone else stack their cakes differently for wedding vs birthdays or single tier cakes, or what would you recommend. Thanks everyone.

Like K8 said, it's up to you...

I charge the same base price for wedding cakes and birthday cakes so I torte all my cakes regardless of occasion. Plus it helps me make sure the cake is cooked all the way through.

I don't do anything differently. No matter the celebration, they are all assembled the same, only difference is how they're decorated, even then, each one is different, of course.
