are these food safe as far as you're concerned?-- if it's only used for food and never used for other purposes?

I can't see why it wouldn't be. I got mine from an art supply store, not a cake decorating store, it's not the brand you mention though. As far as I can tell, the only difference is it doesn't come in a cutesy pink box which we decorators are supposed to love...

If it's never been used with real paint, it should be fine.
