AToday I made some homemade gummy candy and used the Tutti frutti and cherry flavors (separately). I didn't really love them. Cherry is typically my favorite gummy flavor but I think this tasted a bit like cough medicine. I was wondering if anyone had flavors they really loved.

In general the flavors weren't very strong so next time I'll add more oil but I think the cherry might be too medicinal for that. I added citric acid, per the recipe, wondering if there's any advice there as well. I was hoping it would give a bit of tartness but it wasn't really obvious. Next batch I plan to up that amount as well. Thanks!!!

still_learning:   I've tried to make the hard candies/lollipops and have given up the ship.:ouch:

Can't tell you how many batches and flavors of Loran extracts that I experimented with-  including the fruit ones with addition of citric acids.  I simply could not duplicate the flavor, the hard texture, or get a non sticky outside.  Nothing beats a Tootsie Pop.

I was as stubborn as a moose with a toothache and kept buying and trying everything I could find. failure.

*with one exception, which is really not that much of a surprise to me now.  I kept a couple of the hard candy lollypop molds and I had success with a hard caramel scratch recipe.  real butter, sugar, lecithin, cream real vanilla extract.   Like home made Werthers candy on a stick.

AMBalaska - thanks so much for your reply. I was really hoping I was missing something or just didn't find the right flavor but maybe not. My boys love gummy candy and it wasn't hard to make but the flavor just wasn't very good. Those caramels sound so good - way better than what I made yesterday!
