AI would like to do a cake with the cake itself being different colors for sack layer. How do I color the batter? Do I use gel coloring? How would I get a true red? Thank you, Eva

I have done two rainbow cakes. I used grocery store food colors because the liquid is actually easier to mix into the batter than gels. For a true red I used a bit of lorann red velvet emulsion because it stays true without going pink. HTH
