AI am making my first gumpaste high heel and it's turning out about how I expected but I had trouble getting it the color I want. I want it to be red and I colored the gum paste with SO much coloring and it still is almost orange. I used Wilton red-red. I plan on covering it in red luster dust once it's fully dry and I'm wondering if this will give me the red I want or if I should "paint" on the Wilton red-red before the dust. I also watched a tutorial about using the luster dust dry instead of with alcohol or whatever. Would doing that work? Any other suggestions?

I think it would depend on just how orange it is and how red the dust is.  I used to do a certain popular blue pump that had sort of shimmery look to it in real life, so I would make it with a royal blue fondant/tylose and brush it all over with several dusts mixed together - dry. The only problem was that the dust could easily get brushed onto the pale ivory inner part of the shoe. Just had to be really careful and put paper towel inside the shoe. Careful what you do with your hands after touching the shoe.

Maybe someone else will better know how to handle that
 

Why don't you try painting the shoe with red colouring once its dry.

AI just used a sample piece of dried gumpaste in the same color and painted it with red RI. Looks good so far and it seems like it will give me the shine I want.

Whats Red RI ?

AYou might want to try mixing a small amount of blue into it. Try it first on just a small bit to see if you get the desired colour.
