does anyone know if there are any upcoming cake classes in los angeles? or how I can find out where and when they are? I am interested in taking a sculpting class, or one about topsy turvy cakes.

Check with local cake decorating supply stores.  Also craftsy has some good one.  Also check with Caljava International.  They give advanced classes.
