I am just getting started in trying to branch out and start a cake business after having many requests from outside people for me to make them a cake.  I only made for my family.  I feel very blessed being asked and also have recently been asked to make a wedding cake.  This would only be my fourth.  I am looking for any guidance that anyone is willing to offer.  I would love to have a contract and any tips you have learned along the way.

Thank you for your knowledge!

AMy biggest advice is to make a 2 part contract. I separate min as "policies & procedures" & "cake contract."

I require clients to sign a copy of the policies & procedures when they reserve the date. sometimes, the details of the cake are not yet finalized. The policies contract ensures try understand cancellation, stand rental, & hurricane policies.

Once the cake details are finalized, I complete the cake contract. It outlines the flavors, fillings, etc. I'm always amazed when people don't include a sketch. I think it's important. When I send it to the bride or approval, I remind them to review it carefully & to ask questions if anything is confusin or missing. I it's not on the contract, it won't be on the cake.
