Is this a preprinted design? I have a request for a duplicate of this cake, but I'm not sure I can even do it....
The reason I believe it's a preprinted design is b/c you can see where the cake isn't completely level and the design looks like it was placed over it. Can anyone confirm? And if you were to get a request for this cake.. how would you go about doing it?
I've done this pattern many times. This is a damask stencil. I bought mine on Global sugar art 2 years ago. Use royal icing to paste over the stencil. Best to buy the tools that can hold a stencil in place or have someone it on the cake for you or you can rub your stencil backing with some vegetable shortening and it will stick to the cake. You have to apply a very thin layer of royal icing and smear with a spatula. Best to practice on a piece of fondant before you do it on the cake as it will be very hard to clean up any mistakes with damask. Good luck and have fun!
You can print them if you have an edible image printer. Icingimages.com had lots of damask patterns you can choose and print on edible sheets. That's what I do. But you must have (or know someone who has) an edible image printer. I see what you mean by the cake not being level on top.
