I have a client that is wanting a cake done in blue and green colors but she will have someone at the party that is allergic to yellow dye #5. Any suggestions on what I need to do. I will be covering the cake with fondant.

The company India Tree has some natural food colorings: red, yellow and blue. I have not used them personally but they might be an alternative. I am not sure if the crystal colors have yellow 5 in them.

India Tree makes natural food coloring without dyes, but they are very expensive. Our primary focus is making cakes for people with food allergies, and we occasionally get customers who are allergic to dyes...when we quote them the price for a design using natural food coloring they have always decided that artificial coloring was OK after all or they opted for a design that does not require coloring.
