I need to make a cream cheese icing. The recipes that I have seen all call for butter. Can I use butter crisco instead? Or do you think that it would alter the taste too much?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Hello! I have a crusting cream cheese recipe, that I got from cgys. It calls for butter and shortening. I don't know if that would help, but if you need it you could p.m. myself or cgys. As far as how butter crisco would alter the taste, I don't know! You could always make a trial batch and see what it tastes like! Hope that helps!

I'm not sure about how it might affect the taste, but it will definitely make it yellow. I had to use the butter crisco once when I was out of regular & couldn't believe how yellow it was....like I'd added coloring to it! Unless you're going to color the icing, I wouldn't use it because of that reason alone. icon_smile.gif However, now that I'm thinking about it.....I think I remember it tasting like I'd used butter flavoring, but I was adding vanilla and creme boquet anyway & it covered it up mostly. Hope that helps!

The Crisco website actually has recipes for icings that use only the butter-flavored, so it will be perfectly fine. I have never tasted an icing made with butter-flavor shortening tho.

I use butter crisco in my chocolate buttercream, since color isn't an issue...makes for a very creamy and smooth icing!

I don't know about flavor, but I've heard it can make colors come out neon. Hope that doesn't happen with the deer! That would be a shock. hehe icon_confused.gif
