any suggestions for attaching real ribbon around the middle of a buttercream iced tier and also making a nice looking loop/dress bow to go in the front out of real ribbon? The ribbon i have is not wired and about 1.25 inches wide, its going on a 10" round cake, TIA.

Hi,

I would use royal icing to attach my ribbon around the cake. Be sure to place a backing on the back of yr ribbon BEFORE adding it to yr cake. I use plastic wrap or parchment paper so, the ribbon doesn't touch my cakes icing. Also, a backing protects against the oils from yr icing seeping thru to the ribbon and making it look wet n spotty. Use royal icing to also attach yr bow to the ribbon too.

To make a loop bow, you can start out with a good length of ribbon, depending on how big you want yr bow to be and fold one end inward to the middle of the strip and attach w/hot glue and then do the same with the other end. Until they both meet in the middle. Then to make yr center piece/puff, take a smaller piece of ribbon and wrap it around the center of the loop that you have already made and attach it w/hot glue as well. Then attach the bow to yr ribboned cake with royal icing.
