I can't seem to get a "sharp" edge to my roses and I'm so disappointed. The edges are often "feathered" - once in a while they turn out great but I can't tell what's different! Is it the buttercream? the tips? my technique?

Any advice would be welcome!

I believe that happens when your icing is too thick consistency. Try thinning with a tsp or 2 of water and that should do it. Also I would suspect humidity affects it as well.

...adding a little bit of piping gel to your icing should clear that right up! thumbs_up.gif

I've heard that adding a Tablespoon of light corn syrup will also work. I still need to try it - thanks for the reminder! Good luck!

Also, check your rose tip, some are pinched to tight on the small end and need adjusting. One other thing that i can think of that hasn't been said, is your icing in your bag needs to be smooth. IF you have alot of air bubbles you can get these jagged edges too.

Your frosting could be on the stiff side. These suggestions sould like they would help. Could also be not enough Ump" when squeezing out petals.

The ruffled edge can be from your icing being too stiff. If it feels like a good consistency but is still doing it, you can add a tablespoon of crisco to every cup of icing.

Something else that can cause it is if you are piping to slow and turning your nail to fast, which will stretch your icing and cause the ruffled edge.

Sorry that I actually can't help with this, but can't resist mentioning that when my roses aren't as perfect as I'd like, I can often be heard complaining about "those persky aphids!" icon_smile.gif Don't want to forget that in the garden they aren't always perfect either! Maybe with more practice, I'll have fewer aphids.....
