Hello, I have never used a cricut before and am about to purchase one mainly for making cupcake wrappers. Can anyone tell me which cricut would be the best to buy? I know I have to buy the cartridge for the wrappers so I need a cricut that would work with that cartridge. Also, I've been cutting wrappers by hand for a few years now and get 5 wrappers per piece of cardstock that i use. How many wrappers do you get when using the cricut, is it less than doing them by hand?

I am so glad you asked this question. I have just spent the last three hours looking for cupcake wrappers that I need, and can't find anything. So I started searching for info on the Cricut. I too would love to know this info! I don't think I can cut any more by hand. LOL
I think all you need is the lower model "create" not the expressions one. ??? I'm not really sure about the differences between the two and what you get for the extra money spent on the higher model.

Can anyone offer any help?

Have you checked the Amazon reviews? Of course it would probably be better to get the answer here, however, some of the reviews might have that info. The power of the Cricut, lol, I had no idea it could do wrappers.

I do not know the answer as I have yet to actually use mine yet lol. But I thought I would let you know the wrapper cartridge appear to be on sale at a few Walmarts around me.

I use my Cricut Cake for cutting cupcake wrappers. I just had to buy the deep cut blade and housing separately for it. It works fine, though. I can't speak for the paper models, since I don't have one - but if a Cricut Cake is on clearance for cheaper than a paper model...

One weird thing about it is that the wrappers don't seem to cut at a standard size. It took me some messing around to get them to the right size. But I think I got 5 wrappers out of a 12x12 piece of paper.

I use a Cricut Create, which the a mini paper Cricut, for all non-edible cuts and keep my Cricut Cake just for fondant, gum paste or all edible material.

The biggest difference is the size. The "create" can only take a piece of paper 6 inches wide and the expression can take paper up to 12 inches.

Thanks everyone! It sounds like the expression is the way to go. Has anyone used the cupcake wrapper cartridge and have any tips for me? Someone said it doesn't do standard size cupcakes?? How can that be? Isn't that what most people use!!

I have the cricut cake and use the deep cut housing and blade with the paper mats for cutting cupcake wrappers from the cupcake cartridge.

It has some really cute designs but my complaint is they don't seem to be a standanard size in relation to each other. For one design I can cut it with the size knob at 2" and get a perfect standard cupcake size but if I go to another design, 2" is too big and I have to fiddle with the size until I get it right. I like that you can do small or large cupcakes but wish the designs were all the same so I didn't have to adjust the knob for each one. I usually can get 4 wrappers from a 12" paper.

Thank you leafo!! I get it now! I guess it will take some playing around with the machine to get use to it. I looked at the images on-line that the cupcake wrapper cartridge comes with, and there are so many cute designs to pick from! This will save me hours, as opposed to sitting here with my paper template and scissors! Thanks for the info.

I haven't used the cupcake wrapper cartridge yet, but I know with other cartridges the problem with the sizing is that you can't choose how long you want it, just how tall. So I'm guessing that's why for some designs 2" works and for others you have to adjust. Does that make sense?
I read on another website that if you press "fit to length" and then cut at 8" you will get a standard size cupcake wrapper for every design.

Hi Marla84, right now nothing makes sense, Haa Haa!! All these terms that are being thrown out "2 knob" "fit to size"....I have never used a cricut before so I figure once I get it home and play around with it a bit I'll start to figure all this out. I'm writing down everything that you all are telling me so when I get it, it will all make sense to me. I appreciate all the help, looking at the cricut is a little overwhelming with all the buttons and different terms.

i have the cartridge. how do u do the fit to length. im confused?

Does the cupcake wrapper cartridge fit either model and can you just cut the standard 12x12 papers in half to fit the "create" model?
Also, where is the best place to purchase the cricut? I found at my Wal-mart, they want $180 for the create and $330 for the expressions.....that's a bit high, isn't it?

Try ebay - I have had very good luck there, and paid about 100.00 for a brand new unopened Create. They also have good deals on new unopened cartridges.

The cupcake wrapper cartridge will work in any machine, but the "fit to length" feature is not on all machines. I know it is on the Expression. I'm not sure about the Create. It is a button on the machine itself - not part of the cartridge.

I paid around $200 for my Expression and it came with 3 cartridges and Design Studio software. I've seen similar bundles on sale at Target and AC Moore in the past for around that price. I also saw the Create on clearance recently at Walmart for $75. The cupcake wrappers cartridge is clearanced for $20. Cricutmachine.com also puts the bundles on sale frequently. There are deals all the time - definitely shop around!!
