I have to make a cake for a soldier. The wife wants them to be authenic as possible. But, I don't think cake will work. Maybe RC covered with fondant.

Has anyone done this before, Any ideas?

I made a pair several years ago for a groom's cake. I had never made a pair before and he said he didn't care, he knew the cak would taste goodicon_smile.gif He brought them to me the week of the wedding, because he just got home and wanted me to have the 'REAL' ones. I have a picture in my photos.

If I remember, I baked a bunch of 5"/6" cakes (icon_cool.gif to have the crust on the outside for support (also put a board and dowels between cake 2 and 3)and also baked a 1/2 sheet cake which I cut in half for the foot part. I notched out semi-circles in order to fit around part of the circle cakes. I dowel rodded through the center of stacked rounds too, then I carved them as one piece. Looking back, I would have preferred two seperate boots. I used one of the wheel tools to make stiching and attached the loops for the shoe strings. I was cutting it close on time, so I used a pair of real shoe strings.

Hope this helps icon_rolleyes.gif I've slept since then and good luck icon_smile.gif
