I am a hobbyist who has been decorating cakes for three years and have moderate skills. A friend has asked me to decorate a three tiered wedding cake in a victorian style. Any suggestions on something that wouldn't be too difficult? I'm not great at scrollwork and am contemplating something with more of a lace look so I can use a mold. Are folks happy with using molds for this?
I'm afraid that you really need the lace and scrolls to do Victorian. Lambeth Method in particular would be stunning. But do consider patterns and tracing over the wax paper with royal icing. They would be easy to attach to a fondant covered cake and something you could do. All you would need to do is "spot glue" with royal all of your pieces... Oh and maybe bump it up a notch with interlocking initials done in Toba Garrett's style of stitching, which is also a royal icing and pattern method.
Victorian weddings were big on traditional flowers with meanings. Check into what the bride will use in her bouquet and maybe incorporate those as well.
good suggestions. Thanks. Any opinions out there on how difficult it is to use the lace molds?

You should find out what she means by "victorian".
Victorian is Royal icing, pastilliage gumpaste and piping - hard as a rock. [Lambeth "style" is 1930's and had evolved significantly from the 1830's]

It is more than possible that she means "vintage" "nostalgic" "romantic" or such with lace, flowers, bows, jewellry etc

Those are GREAT examples Auzzie! When I heard Victorian my hand instantly cramped. I would ask for clarification as well, cause I am thinking of the tru Victorian style and boy, that is a lot of work! Can't wait to see the pic.!
