Was atchinga cakeshow and someone mention sugarveil.
what is it and what would someone use it for?
thanks
you can make very real and life like lace from it, borders, bows and all kinds of pattern combinations. it is really cool. I am hoping that it won't be too long before I can get some of their tools and start making my own. I have the mix, but not the tools. have you ever seen Jennifer Dontz and her Dvd on Cho. fondant and cho. clay? it is very similiar in how easy it is and flexible and strong. just two different ways of decorating and two different fun and strong componets to use. YOu can make some very real looking lace with Jennifers cho.clay also. I have her video Fun with Fondant Frills. It is cool. it is kind of easier to get started with as you don't need so many things to start with. Good luck. Hopefully this answers some of your questions.
Hi Panda,
The easiest way to see SugarVeil in action is to watch a short video: http://www.youtube.com/sugarveil#p/u/6/_MJG879zanY (there are others on that channel, too). SugarVeil Icing is a powder containing no gluten, fat, dairy, or artificial additives - add boiling water to it and beat for 4 minutes into a fluffy, very white mass. You can pipe it with a parchment cone, spread it thinly onto a silicone mat to make "fabric", comb it into strings, or spread it onto a Confectioners' Mat to make intricate lace. When it sets, you can peel it, and because it is really flexible, you can bend SugarVeil monograms around cakes, tie the strings into knots, cut and punch the fabric into shapes, and ruffle the lace. It sticks to all icings/surfaces as is, or you can use a very slight bit of water on your fingertip to attach it.
You can see the different patterns of Confectioners' Mats here: http://www.sugarveil.com/mat/sugarveil-mat.htm, and there's a gallery of cakes and lots of educational instruction at http://www.sugarveil.com. Please do let me know if you've any questions. Thank you!
