my friend wants me to make a dragon cake for her 6 yr old son. I don't have an idea how to start. Can someone help?? thanks.
I just did a dinosaur cake using the Wilton dinosaur pan and it looked great. Perhaps by adding a few more spikes along the back/tail and maybe fire from the mouth out of fondant, etc. I think it could indeed look dragon-like.
The cake is time consuming but not difficult. Link below:

Just an idea
Hello here is a link to a tutorial for a dragon cake.

You can look at my photos, my 8 year old wanted a "flame cake" for his birthday. We ended up doing a movie theme with How to Train Your Dragon. The cake was a 10" and 6" tiered cake with dragon and boy made out of gumpaste on the top and flames on the side. The flames were just white fondant rolled out and I freehanded flames, glued onto the cake with RI and "painted" with tinted cookie icing. Hope this helps.
There are instructions for friendly 3D one in Debbie Brown's '50 Easy Party Cakes' book. Or it might be easier to model a dragon out of gumpaste and make a simple 'castle-ish' cake to sit it on like this http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1793690
I truly want to thank all of you for your quick replies. love all your ideas, she wants a 3d cake so wish me luck will post it upon completing it. I'm thinking of a 8" half ball pan for the body and a 6" round for the head, thinking of using fondant for the legs and tails. I'm enclosing a picture of want she wants.

If you want a photo to show up in your post, here's how:
First upload the photo into an online photo site like Photobucket (getting a photobucket account is easy and FREE) then just copy the photo's image code (IMG Code) from photobucket and paste it into your post. Then when you hit 'submit comment' the photo will display in the thread. Easy.
Photobucket is here: http://photobucket.com/
I'm pretty sure you can also use Flickr like this too - just look for the image code (IMG code) and copy and paste it.
The attachment function on CC does not work, and it doesn't appear that it will ever be fixed.
thanks Coral3 for the upload info. Here is the final product. I did it!! used an 8" ball pan for the body a 6" round for head, a square 6" for the tail & neck. Thanks everyone for your great ideas.
