I Made A Big Fat Ugly Cake And I Love It

I made a big fat ugly cake just to eat! I torted and frosted when it was still slightly warm, there were crumbs all over the dang place, I licked my fingers a few times b/c the only ppl eating this cake all live in my house and kiss me on the lips so a finger lick wont kill them.
I am so happy!
Love it! Sometimes the cakes I make for myself are the ugliest ever, but they're so great! I've always wondered if anyone else made ugly cakes too!
Isn't it nice to just make a cake and know that you don't have to do anything fancy to it?!! Just an "ugly " cake to share with the l living with you. This post really made me smile. Sometimes we forget how to make just a cake.
You made a REAL cake!! Awesome. It's fun when get to do that. Remember when cakes looked yummy and couldn't wait to eat them? Now they look pretty and no one wants to cut them.
I actually had an order for a wedding cake like that a three different times. It was so cool. No crumbs, but you get the idea.
I like real cakes myself. Good for you!!
LOL!
I take all my scraps after I level or carve a cake & layer it with leftover icing. I call it my Scrap Cake & my family complains if there isn't one in the house after I have made a cake! LOL!
My family loves cake scraps too. I just put them all in a big bowl, throw in a little leftover icing & we all dig in with our spoons. Failing that I make cake balls!!
I hear ya - I will never forget the moment I realised I never made 'real' cakes anymore...my youngest came into the kitchen to ask what the 'delicious' smell was. Her face actually fell when I said 'cake' - she replied 'oh I thought you might have been making something for us'. Sometimes we forget our poor families in our frenzies of planning and making cakes for other people!
The best cake I ever had? When I was 8 yrs old, the lady next door made a scratch banana cake with vanilla buttercream. She frosted it before it had cooled so the frosting had started to melt so it was a mess. She brought it over to my mom's house - with 5 kids we never got stuff like that. I can still smell it to this day and the taste...wow, out of this world!
love this story! I did this for my hubby not to long ago, and he was so thankful! My kids will come into the kitchen, and ask what is this or that for? When I answer them just for fun or practice, the tone of thier voice always changes.
I think that just because we are burnt out on the taste of cakes, we think that they might be too...but that isn't always the case. The kids/hubby need some cake love too!!
When I am experimenting, I leave out the layers (several recipes), and a french buttercream that I have split into three bowls and flavored each differently. My family can cut off a chunk of cake and gob on as much or as little icing in their favorite flavor. This is so much fun.
Great post!!! My DH loves it when I make cakes like this--yummy and not one bit fancy!
LOL!

Ditto!
Not long ago my DH asked me why I didn't have scraps any more. When I explained that I finally found out how to bake a cake without forming a dome on top from CC, he was so disappointed and asked me to 'mess one up every once in a while'...LOL
I've just started and haven't tired of eating cake yet but this post made me smile. Nothing like a big, fat ugly cake to make your day! Good for you!
