i went to the atore today and sen a packago of buttercream mix made by wilton..is this mix anygood, is it better just to make your own? also does anyone know if this mix is for a crusting buttercream?
I don't know the product, but if it doesn't crust add some more icing sugar to it, as crusting is related to fat/sugar ratio. More sugar = more crust.
I used it once when I was traveling and needed to decorate a cake real quick at a friend's house. It was OK - not great, but not bad.
I always recommend making it from scratch, frosting is just one of those things that tastes the best homemade! yummm! my own personal tip is i add about a Tablespoon of merangue powder to my icing and it crusts up well. I also find half butter half shortning seems to get the best taste with the best crust.
