Celebrating our first year in business we are starting to gain trust in the surounding comunities and as a result we're got a quote on the go for 43 dozen cookies with a printed logo of a new convention center in our city.

They want to have their logo printed on the cookies. Last week we paid $10 and $11 per sheet for edible rice paper. One of which was a TOTAL loss, brown came out puky green. Their excuses were that the file was no good and that the print was copyrighted...I've been a professional Web/Graphic designer for 15 years...there is no way it was my file. None the less we don't trust one of them and the other one's printer was broken.

So we are trying to compare prices on, 1)buy a printer, rice paper and ink or 2) order the edible prints online somewhere and like that isn't enough I'd like a Canadian suplier.

I've seen Business card size online for $7/sheet (@ 10 per sheet) plus shipping..... with the printer at least we get to reuse the equipment.

I am also worried about the edible ink, don't know if this is an issue or not but we'd probably be using up one or two color only.

What do you figure that YOUR cost of printing a sheet is?

I would buy the printer and ink - go to a website that sells the edible ink and then do a search for some of the printers the inks fit it - for example, I just found a printer that was $99 and the ink is around $50 - rice paper is about $1 a sheet. I just got mine up and running after sitting for years - not positive what my cost is per sheet, but it's got to be way less than $7 a sheet.

I've bought my printer for 69$ in rebate at bestbuy online.
I buy my frosting sheet (39$) and ink from goldaskitchen now. Before I was ordering directly from kopykake but with shipping and custom fees.. he doesn't really come cheaper than goldaskitchen.
I like to buy from goldaskitchen because I always have something to order so I combine things and the shipping is really cheap!

For me, it was a good investment.. In fact it's my second printer.
It's brought me a lot of orders..

I cannot speak for the costs in Canada, but we tell our customers who are not refilling their cartridges to average about $2 into their costs when they are printing a sheet. This is conservative in that it accounts for messups!!! If they refill, their costs go down to $1.21. So you will obviously save a boat load of money. You can control your quality, but you want to make sure if you invest in a printer that you use it at least once per week. Also, it may be the opporutnity that you need to expand your business. With this order, it will bring new business which may justify the purchase.
