I'm making a batch of MMF and will be needing a small part of it to be black. How do I get a true black color? I usually only get a grey color and that's even when it sat overnight.
Thanks for the help.
I start with chocolate fondant and then add black. It will already be dark so you don't have to add as much black to it.
How do you make chocolate marshmallow fondant?

I make my black a batch at a time. I add black to the MM mixture before adding it to the PS. It still takes alot, BUT, it doesnt change the consistancy for rolling, drying or shaping. And I prefer to start with colored MM.
I read on a cake color chart that you can mix equal parts of blue/orange/red to get black and it works so well for me. Here is a link:

zoiks! The blocked part is s u g a r and c r a f t with out the spaces or the and geesh
The True Black MMF recipe here is the best. But you have to make sure there is not a chocolate allergy. I've used it several times and love it.

I make my dark colors the whole batch. You can do a small batch of MMF (there is recipe on here somewhere that only calls for 1 cup of mini marshmallows) I then add the coloring to the melted marshmallows before adding the PS. i find it takes a lot less color this way. And there isn't nearly as much kneeding.
If you are starting with white fondnat, color it brown first, then add the black (i don't use chocolate MMF b/c i have clients that can't have chocolate - life or death situation)
I also add my color to the melted marshmallows before adding the powdered sugar...and use Americolor!
I also use Americolour super black. Wilton black doesn't seem to get my mmf black no matter how much I add. I also add a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder and that's pretty much it.
Thanks for the link for the black fondant! I need this for a birthday cake for my daughter, and a wedding cake next year. Hopefully, Wilton colour won't let me down! I'm excited to try this, as MMF is a new experience for me!
I try to keep black pre-made fondant on hand because it's such a pain to make. I just needed a batch of navy blue. I started with white, and it took so much gel to get to navy. And it made the fondant too soft.
