yes, I used melted chocolate like you said ,but let me tell you what happened..went to grab the 1/2 & 1/2 had none, but had milk, also had heavy whipping cream, so I was wondering how whipping cream would work in it,so I tryed it, mamawrobin , what can I say it turned out great,,the great thing about ID's BC I think the more you make it the better it gets.. thanks for all your help and tips...did your son's cake turn out ok ?
Have you tried Whimsical Bakehouse's Chocolate Buttercream? I can eat it by the bowlful.

Have not tried it either, but would like to,,could you please post recipe
How much melted chocolate are you adding to Indydebi's BC? and what kind?
I add Baker's Unsweetened chocolate squares 6 ounces per batch...melted..and cooled..but still pourable. OMG...this makes the BEST chocolate buttercream. You do have to add extra milk (or half and half) but I add only a teaspoon at a time so that I'm careful not to add too much. It still crusts just the same as her original recipe and is just as easy to smooth.
Here's the link to the Whimsical Bakehouse website:

I add 4 (or more) ounces of melted semi-sweet chocolate for chocolate buttercream.
Here is her recipe. I don't use meringue and it still crusts.
* 2 cups (1 pound or 454 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature
* 1/2 cup (115 grams) vegetable shortening
* 3 lbs (1.36 kilograms) 10X confectioners' sugar
* 1 cup (110 grams) Dutch processed cocoa powder
* 3 Tbsp meringue powder
* 1 tsp salt
* 5 fl oz (150 mililiter) chocolate liqueur (i.e., Godiva or another)
* 2 Tbsp milk
* 1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
* 2 cups (1 pound or 454 gram) refrigerated Ganache

Cutthecake... do you know if the Whimsical Bakehouse buttercream crusts?
That's what I like about adding the chocolate to Indydebi's recipe..is because it still crusts the same and is just as easy to smooth as her icing without the chocolate added. I have used some other chocolate buttercreams but they weren't as "user friendly" as this recipe is. I just love the way her icing "performs".
It all sounds yummy!!!!!!
Agreed! Have y'all tried the recipe on the back of the Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa can? I think it's simply amazing!
