Cleaning Cake Tips In Microwave?

I recall reading this a while back on how to do it, but cant recall. Does anyone do this? How?
My dishwasher started leaking last week, turns out a hose burst open inside. Been washing them by hand, but they just arent getting very clean. So any suggestions are more than welcome!
I thought metal in the microwave was a no-no, but I've had a microwave with a metal shelf before so maybe not...I know you can boil the tips in a saucepan to get them squeaky clean.
I do this all the time. Rinse the tips in warm water, use your pinky to plunge the big chunks out and place in a glass pyrex bowl. Fill with hot water (COVERING THE TIPS -- very important!!!) and a squirt of dishwashing liquid (the kind that states it fights grease) and nuke for 4 minutes. Drain in a strainer, rinse off and dump on a towel to airdry. Works every time!
Do you have one of those little tip-cleaning brushes? That gets them very clean because it gets into the narrow parts of the tip. The tips are a pain to clean when they're filled with greasy icing.
I put the tips in a microwave safe plastic container along with some soapy water, enough to cover the tops of the tips and some extra. I then set them in the microwave for about a minute or two to get the water hot enough to melt the icing that is inside. Be sure to have a container that is large enough to allow the water to bubble up or it will be inside you microwave. Don't ask how I know They usually come out clean and I just pour the whole lot into the sink and then rinse. Be Careful though, this water is hot, hot, hot and you could get burned.

Thank you everyone!! I just cant seem to get the grease out of them when washing by hand. I too had concerns about metal in the microwave, but bob and cakegrandma know what I am talking about!
Thank you again!
How does everyone clean their pastry bags. I have a harder time getting the grease off so that the next time they don't feel greasey. Does that make sense?
I turn them inside out and rinse off in hot water thoroughly. Then I put in the dish water and wash normally, rinse thoroughly then put on a bag dryer to dry. Make sure the dish water is hot and has grease-fighting soap in it.
