I've read that people ice petit fours before using the poured fondant, so do you do that with the cookies? Does it taste good with just the pf?

Also, I was wondering about flavoring. So far I've used vanilla and almond, but I've never been a big sugar cookie fan anyway so they seem a little dull. Anyone have another favorite flavor I could try?
