I am typing a fake cake chart for a quick guide when brides want to insert a fake layers in the cake.
I found this on the web and sometimes use it as a guide and add to the price according to the designs.

I looked at the prices and thought "only if I want to earn less than pan-handler's wages" would I charge that little...

Maybe I'm outrageously priced, but I charge 50 cents less per serving for dummies -- it costs me every bit as much time and effort to decorate styrofoam as it does a real cake. And if I don't save time, they don't save $$.... icon_twisted.gif I learned that from a fellow cake decorator who is very successful in her business.

I normally charge 25% less and sometimes 50% less than real cake if iced and bordered only.

But this is always a hard area for me to look at the customer and give a price. So I need a chart to go by since I'm unable to show confidence in this area.

Thanks

Actually, if you think about it, you do save time. You don't have to grease pans, mix batter, have your oven running while it bakes, and extra bowls and pans to wash later. That also saves you the cake ingredients too.

But you're right that you have the same cost in the frosting and it takes the same amount of time to decorate as a real one. You just don't have all the prep, which to me is a big deal to cut all that out.

Mybe I'm wrong but I charge $35 for any size and the bride usually goes for the real. They usually what the dummies on top so $35 for 6" makes them think twice.
