Hi, I have only tried to paint with gold once and it was not successful. I used the wilton brand gold luster dust and added vodka to it. Did I do something wrong or is there a better brand out there. I now need to use either gold or silver luster dust and I would be very thankful for recommendations of a better brand (or advice on painting technique). Thank you

The very best edible gold & silver dusts are from Crystal Colors. You get very true colors and they mix well with clear driniing alcohols.

Thought I would revive this thread. I trust Rae's opinion, but I was wondering if there are any other opinions.

I've heard pretty good things about these 2 and Cakedeco has a pretty good price when you buy a large amount:

Ahttp://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=7CFI3Sz1s-c&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7CFI3Sz1s-c video on how to use the different kind of dust..

Remember that if you order from GSA you need to use pay pal or a preloaded credit card because of the problems they have had with credit card theft....I'm not saying that GSA has the best choices of dust I just wanted to share the video on how to use some of the different kinds of dust

The best metallic dust is rolkem its more pricey than sugarflair etc but you get what you pay for a little certainly goes a long way i use the gold silver and rose gold they give a beautiful finish and also have other dusts and glitters available. When using rejuvenator fluid or alcohol make sure you dont use too much as this can lead to streaks in your fondant or chocolate work.

No, you did nothing wrong, @Adevag ‍.  I had the exact same experience with Wilton and Duff Goldman brands dust.  When I mixed them with alcohol, they didn't disolve into a smooth paint, but remained grainy and didn't work well at all.  The two brands I now use are CK brand in Imperial Gold and Antique Gold and Ideale Power Color, which I ordered from Edna de la Cruz's blog store at Design Me A Cake.  They all work beautifully.  But, as -K8memphis said, not or the really pretty metallics are edible, for decorative use only. What Is The Best Silver And Gold Luster Dust?

LOL - I wish MY legs looked like that too!  I told my husband I made my models have the bodies that I always wished I had.  No, not a competition, just a way for cakers to enjoy their craft/hobby. Thank you, again, for your kind words of support!

I've been using a combination of painting with edible gold paint first and then going over it once dry with a lustre dust. Gives it a really nice old gold sort of look.
