I need help! How should I charge for this cake? She doesn't know if she wants buttercrean or fondant (she wants prices for both)
This is my first paid order for a wedding cake, and I don't want to mess it up.
Thanks so very much,
Teri

That scrollwork is an EXTRAORDINARY amount of work! I wouldn't touch this for less than $5.00/serving with additional charge for the bow.

I was going to say $6, so yeah, somewhere in the $5-$6 range.

Antonia74 has done a very similar cake (I LOVE this cake), she might have some advice:

Thank you for your help. My husband kept saying $5-$6 also. I'm a nervous reck to tell her much it will be LOL
I guess if she wants it bad enough and wants me to do it then she'll pay right ?!

Just let her know that it is an extensive amount of stencil work which will take much skilled labor to complete. Do not undercharge for this because it will be a lot of tedious work, it is a beautiful cake!

WOW! That cake is absolutely GORGEOUS!! I know if I were the bride (even though I love a good deal icon_biggrin.gif) I would easily pay at least $5 a serving. Great work!
Good Luck!!!

Be sure to only accept orders for cakes that you have the ability to complete. No amount of money paid will ensure you can complete the intricasy of this work. If you can do this type of decorating then you would have to be very competent and therefore would be thumbs_up.gif entitled to charge adequately for it. Good luck with it, I don't feel you would get too much competition from other cake decorators unless they share your skills. Leonie, Australia

I've done a similar design in buttercream (1st photo) & in fondant (2nd photo) a few times...and it takes a LONG time to hand-pipe that scrollwork, in either royal/chocolate/buttercream on those 3 or 4 tiers.

After doing it just a few times, it's still 2-4 hours of work for me. You need to figure out what you're pay is per hour if people want things like decorating or even sourcing materials at stores. All that work has to be paid and accounted for in the cake's final price:
