Cakewreck Readers...need Help Please!

So, for those of you that read the CakeWrecks blog, you probably know that she has written a book and is going on a book tour. Well, she's having a little contest: Jen says "Just make a Wreckplica of your choice...but the catch is, it has to be on a cupcake. This is both to keep the entries a manageable size, and (bonus!) just to screw with you. The crowd favorites will win fabulous prizes, which admittedly I haven't decided on yet, but believe me, they're going to be fabulous."
Now I've never entered any contests or anything, but I have to admit this sounds like too much fun and since I'm going to her book signing, I thought, why not?! My only problem is that I've been searching (for hours, days really!) for which cake wreck I would like to replicate, but I can't decide! Any readers out there that would like to tell me what your favorite wreck is? Or just one you think would look cool on a cupcake? Thanks for the help!
*If you are also planning on going to the Orlando signing and are making a wreckplica, please don't give me your idea...I wouldn't want to steal anyone's work! Although, if you'd like to share what you're doing just so we don't make the same one, that's fine, just include that that's what you will be doing in Orlando. Thanks!
Its got to have the carrot jockey's on it, she's big into those! and definitely something misspelled. hmmmm....I'll have to check the site, there's been so many good ones I cant pick a favorite.
Unfortunately, Jen is not having a book signing in my area, so I can't go. But I had thought about it when she announced the contest, and I think a wedding cake "wreplica" on a cupcake would be cool. Like, use the cupcake for a base, and then stack little cake rounds on top of it.
This is one of my favorites: http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2009/05/gothic-miss.html
And there's always... http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/2009/08/here-comes-briaaaauugghhh.html
I hope you get some good ideas!
Maybe you could do a cupcake with teeny tiny cupcakes on it in the shape of an ugly cupcake cake. Does that make any sense?
I think you should avoid the carrot jockeys and the "it a gril!" one, they're too obvious.
how about doing a doll out of a cupcake, big poofy dress of frosting that covers the entire cc, and the mini doll pick from wilton
Lol @ doll picks...yeah! And use the oh so unique star tip to ice it in...really crooked like.
I'm very sad she's not coming to Philly. NY is too far for me to go, even though I'm a HUGE fan.
My first instinct was the baby carrot jockeys, but as others have said, too obvious.
What about making a cupcake cake (ptooie) using mini-sized cupcakes? line up 6 or 8 minis on a plate, frost them together, then pipe "I want sprinkles" down the middle?
Have fun! I'm envious.
I think my favorite cake wreck was the "giving birth" cake LOL
Now you could use the small wilton doll pick and pipe her legs on and the baby LOL, and if you really wanted to get super creative ....
Ok this is gonna be gross but thats just me and my strange mind at work.
you could make the cupcake a "filled" cupcake with say some sort of jelly or jam...representing the ................well you get it LOL
It would be a sure fire hit if you gave it to her in person and she opened it up LOL
Thanks for all the ideas so far! They are all great! I too thought of the carrot jockeys but thought they are too easy and obvious. costumeczar: I had the same thought, teeny-weeny cupcakes on the original cupcake and then putting one of the many hideous CCCs on there.
I'm loving all the ideas...and laughing all the while. Please, keep them coming!
I'd go for the plaid wedding cake wreckplica disaster. That's what I was gonna do if she came to Atlanta.
ETA: Although I LOVE the idea of the mini-CCC on a cupcake! That's hilarious!
my friend and I were laughing hysterically one night trying to come up with what we were going to bring to our book signing. (Chicago)
I'm going to do the doll cupcake...I just hate those cakes with a passion!
and my friend is a big tech girl so she's going to do the "Thumbdrive" on top of the cupcake...I kind of talked her into it. BUT she was also thinking about the one where there was all the fruit on top and the sign that said "Flat top, fruit in the middle" pointing out exactly what those folks wanted. I don't want to give the way SHE was going to do it...but anything like spelling out what you did is hilarious!
Can't wait to talk about our experiences at the Cake Wrecks signing! This is going to be a blast! and I am taking a full day off from college just to go to Chicago with my friend to make our cupcakes and explore a few bakeries I've been dying to see down there!
step0nmi: That was my 2nd idea...to do one of the doll cakes. I was trying to find a ken doll like the one on cake wrecks, but that might be too hard to get ahold of so close to the date. So, I would either do the "mountain" or the "easy chair" barbie. So, really I would like to do that or the cupcake cake (thinking Curious George). What do you all think? Is there a better wreck out there? Or a better choice for the awful CCC?
I really wish the book tour was coming to the UK!
My first thought on the cup cake competition was that it would be really awesome to see one completely covered with plastic flotsam. There is a fantastic one on cakewrecks somewhere with a beach and a palm tree and a car and I think Mickey mouse and other stuff. I cant decide if it would be better with minature flotsam for the cupcake, or whether full size toys would add more to the ridiculousness.
There is also the slightly risky idea of trying to wreckplicate that one in the video from the food network with the hideous globs of chocolate and paper and caramel dribbled all over it which they then set fire to, but setting fire to stuff in bookshops is probably frowned upon...
Whatever wreck you go for, a missspelled, poorly spaced, ranomly comma'd/capitalised/appostrophe'd message will not go amiss.
Thanks to everyone that responded! I ended up doing the Curious George CCC. I think it turned out pretty well. And so did Jen and John cause they picked mine as a finalist! Go me! I didn't end up being "the winner", but the lady that won was my favorite too so I can't complain. Plus as a runner-up I got a cool mohawk baby carrot jockey necklace and a nifty cakewrecks bookmark/ribbon. It was definitely a fun time...Jen and her hubby were funny as always, we got to eat delicious cake, and of course I got a new book! Definitely worth the 5 hours of driving time (to there and back)!

I LOVE this idea! Jen loathes ccc's, and this would be sure to impress her. You can use a large cupcake for your base, bigger than normal size. Cut your "cupcakes" out with a small circle cutter and you can make it look like whatever you want! I think she would love it. Great idea Costumeczar!
Awwww, its already over! Great pictures! I wish I have the time off of school to go to Chicago, I just cant though. Congrats on being a runner-up!
Those are hilarious! And horrifying at the same time. The Curious George is one of my kids' favorites.
CAKEFAIRY!! Your cuppie is on the cakewrecks website as a finalist! They put a great picture up of your wreck along with your name. You are famous now!

Check it out everyone! Its the hideous monkey! Congrats to Cakefairy!
Well, I doubt that I'm famous now...but it's pretty cool anyhow! I'm a wreck creator!
So funny story, when they called my name to come up on stage as a runner up, I was also carrying 2 books, a bag, and my camera. Then they made me hold my CC too. Now I'm not used to being in front of people AT ALL, so I was standing up there shaking like crazy and I accidently dropped a book. The whole crowd (and Jen) gasped and looked at me! They all thought I had dropped my little wrecky CC. Like I needed any more attention at the moment.
And as for my CC, I actually tried cutting up 24 teeny CCs and fitting them on the orginal CC, but it wasn't working out so well, so I ended up just cutting the shape of the CCC out of another cupcake. Which also made it much less nerve recking to drive 2 1/2 hours down with. Although right after I left my house I had to slam on the brakes at one point to avoid running a red light and the CC fell over, but luckily didn't get hurt at all! I guess it's all worth it for cake wrecks!
