So, Saturday I realized I need to find a non-family member I can rely on to do deliveries.

Saturday my dad has an accident (he's hurt - but good - gracias a Dios). Well, he was taken to the hospital, but I couldn't go because I still had to finished a sheet cake and then deliver & set-up baptism, xv and birthday cakes. I'm home-based so for the time being I deliver all cakes. He was taken to the hospital maybe about an 1-1.5 hour before I had to start deliveries. I knew he understood as my siblings why I couldn't go right away, but I just wanted to be there.

Luckily, my dad wasn't alone and he's okay, but we were lucky this time. What do you guys do in more severe cases? Do you home-based business have a delivery back-up?

Two different things I do:

1. Friends help me and

2. I take the cakes to the friends house, call the customers, let them know an emergency has happened could they pick up the cake at the friends address. So far, I've had no problems.

What ever I do depends on the situation. I've had to travel and the customers came to get their cake at my home with family here to take care of everything.

Maybe this will help you to brain storm options.
