I am going to be doing another little people farm cake. The last time I used carved cake for the barn. This time I would like to use Rice Krispie Treats. Can I cover it in buttercream rather than fondant or will it fall off?

Also, on my last one due to time constraints I piped on my fencing. This time I want to use MMF for the fencing. What is best way to adhere it to crusted buttercream?

Thanks guys, as usual Cake Central rocks!!

For the fence, just use a little water on the back of the pickets and it will hold nicely. You don't have to let the fondant dry/set, you can just cut, use a little water and adhere. I use a paintbrush when attaching fondant to buttercream, you don't need a ton of water, just a little will work.

As for the RCT barn, buttercream should stay on it fine. I wouldn't refrigerate it becasue of condensation, but you may want to make sure that the sides are not "perfectly" smooth, but with RCT, they are usually lumpy anyway, it will help the buttercream stay on. At least I would think so, you may want to make the barn ahead of time to test it, but I don't see a problem as long as your buttercream isn't too soft.

If you make it a couple days ahead, just keep it in a box in a cool/dry place and it should be good to go.

I don't think buttercream on RKT is a problem. It should be fine.

I would make the fondant fence, let it settle for a bit just to prevent stretching. I would use sticky buttream to attach it.

I've refrigerated buttercream covered cakes without a problem. I guess I am one of those people who don't get condensation at all.
