Is anyone watching? I hate what they did to that delivery boy. No need to humiliate the kid, although he handled it well. If the fondant fell off the cake because of his driving wouldn't there have been more damage? How was that the kid's fault?
Plus, the damage was too neat. Was it staged?
And I hate practical jokes.

I also think it was staged and from the look on "Stretch" aka the delivery boy, I don't think he appreciated the joke. I am not to enthusiatic about this show but this was the first episode. I hope the rest are better.

My husband laughed his head off at that part. Then he said, "so that's why they keep him around". It looked like he's used to getting pranked. Like he's the baby brother that get's stuffed into trash cans.

I love Buddy's cakes so I'll keep watching.

I think its nice to see an actual everyday bakery as opposed to a by appointment bakery like Charm City. I love Duff, but I find the day to day operations of a bakery like that more interesting from a learning stand point. I cant wait to see what tips I can pick up on!

I didn't like the prank either, but I thought the show was pretty good. I really like that Buddy makes his cakes out of cake! I love Duff, but he does so much non-cake stuff.

I really liked the firefighter cake and the shoe itself was AWESOME! I did feel bad for the delivery guy though. First he got in trouble for the fondant and then he got pranked... But the show was good. But why is it on so late at night??? We get up so early, it's hard for me to stay awake that late at night. That's why I miss Ace of Cakes all the time. I hope they move it up.

After watching the show, I was sure I'd have nightmares about having to deliver a cake in the rain!!! I'm new to caking and that possibility had never occurred to me before.

What do you do if it's pouring rain and your cake doesn't fit in a box?

I liked the show, not the joke though played on Stretch. That was a bit much. I was thinking to myself when the fondant fell off the cake, that it was a sneaky way of getting Buddy to deliver the cake himself. icon_twisted.gif

I got all choked up with Buddy making his Dad's fav. cake. And the home video of Buddy when he was 16!!! Lol!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I liked the show for the most part as everyone seems real; real people act like *ahem hems* sometimes, too, I suppose. I think the fondant fell off because the cake seemed to be made quickly and was just slapped to each side of the cake. I could never do it like that for fear that it'd fall. icon_wink.gif AND the prank was over the top! What would little Buddy do if someone did that to him? thumbsdown.gif

I enjoyed the show and the humor....the previews had me scared a little w/ all the yelling though...LOL

I don't think Stretch's driving had anyhting to do w/ the fondant coming off......but oh well he must enjopy all the blame and the all the pranks because he's sticking around. I think he was shocked at the prank at first but he seemed to also expect it from his comments that he made. Also, I love the fact that the cakes are CAKE and not all constructed w/ wood, and styrophym, and etc....

I think this is going to be a favorite show of mine! icon_smile.gif

I'll probably get blasted but I thought the prank was fun. In this day and age when everyone is sue crazy you don't see pranks any more - for fear. I wouldn't be surprised if buddy himself was once subjected to such a prank. He said afterwords "this is a family business, if you work here you are treated just like family". They are a loud boisterous family - which I'm sure they mess with each other all the time. It didn't phase me one bit - its almost like being adopted in the family. I really enjoyed the show - the family dynamic makes it more interesting. That cream puff cake sounds incredible.

I agree! I used to tell my kid's friends: If i'm not teasing you or giving you a hard time, then I probably don't like you! Course I liked all their friends, that's why they got teased! icon_lol.gif

The "fashionista" cake was great and did you see the SIZE of the memorial cake!! Holy COW!! That must be one HUUUUUGGGGEEE family! LOVE Buddy's show! Can't WAIT to see more!! thumbs_up.gif

It is coming on again tonight.

I watched last night and I was a little disappointed in how he handled the whole fondant falling off the cake.... has he never delivered a cake before? I'm looking forward to seeing some more.

I' m not usually a fan of pranks but this one was done with such high spriits. I think when a group of people work under such stressful situations, they need to blow off some steam.

What I really like is how he explains the way things are done.

Love the shoe and love, love the chream puff cake.

I agree I like that it is a bakery. Yous see them churning out all the little items in addition to the cakes.

I thought the prank was funny-but I am used to it as I have all men in my life (although I now have 2 DIL's. I think Stretch took it in stride-it's just part of being in that family. I like this family, and the cakes are so great.

I love the show. Im glad that there is a show that shows what really happens in a bakery when you have an italian boss. Or any boss. People can finally see how a bakery works and also my DH can see what I have to go through when I am to be home after a 8 hr day and its really a 12 or 14 hr day cause the owner took more cakes that was humanly possible to complete.

Like Stretch said he has worked there for a year and a half so he must not be messing up too bad. I too like how he explains how they get all the details on the cake. Like how he showed the bricks wall being made and the tissue paper for the bag on the fashionista cake.

I loved the show. It is now in my top ten. I liked how Buddy actually explained how things are done in detail. I love the family dynamic. I would love to work in that type of environment. The prank was done in fun. When you come from a big family, those things happen. Thats love

So far I'm not a fan of this show. The first episode was nothing but the family yelling at each other, and the second was a complete Ace of Cakes rip-off. I just want to see amazing cakes minus all the antics. And the whole fondant peeling off during delivery, Buddy going to save the day and make the delivery himself at the last minute, then the prank on the delivery boy -- ALL of it was obviously staged.

pattigunter Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile

I agree that was staged. The whole thing fell off too cleanly. They didnt even let the kid finish his delivery - Buddy had to go hisself when all he talked about was how busy he was. They probably have to stage a lot of it to keep it flowing. I'd love to see more actual cake decorating and less drama.

But it was the only thing on TV last night worth watching.

I loved the show! Maybe because I also come from a large family and could see us all yelling at each other while trying to run a bakery!

That cream puff cake - YUM!!

When they brought the cake to the fireman's home...I had a tear in my eye...my Dad was a fireman..

The part where they were mixing the pound cake for the fire engine cake they mentioned that his secret ingredient was cream cheese...anyone ever heard of this?

Loved the show, loved the prank! Love how Buddy explains how he does things as he does them.. Sure there were staged scenes, just like on Ace, or any other "reality" show, but I'm definitely a fan and can't wait for the next episode!!!!

I agree that the fondant coming off the cake was staged. Buddy kept saying "He had to hit the brakes." But according to my high school physics education, if he had hit the brakes too hard, the front of the cake would have come off (due to momentum)...not the back.
