So I am getting pretty good at Fondant animals, but I have a customer call me and wants 50 carousel cupcakes for next week.

I am having a creative block and can't figure out what to do for a carousel animal topper.

Please, if you have any idea's, I would gladly take them!!!!

do you mean that the cupcakes need to look like a cake and have a topper or just how to do each cuppie? I was thinking you could paint a dowel gold or something and maybe stick thru ur animals? Paint a swirl around the dowel in a darker color toget the shading of the swirled pole? Wow, 50? You are going to be busy!

I just did a carousel. Take a look for and idea?

How to do each cuppie. I did some barnyard anmials earlier this month that she loved, and she had my # since, and waited until yesterday to call me, and the party is next Saturday.

I was thinking of making little horses and lions and sticking a shish kabob skewer thru them. Thankfull, she does not want animals on all of them.

I also work a full time job and have a 15 month old, so I better get moving.

How about making a rounded small cake to be the topper canopy of a cupcake stand decorated to look like a carousel canopy. Then put all the little cupcakes decorated with the animals around on the tiers... sort of a three tiered carousel effect...hth

That is what I planned, like a tierd look, however, I am stumped on the animals. They are just so time consuming for only a week's notice.

Given the short notice, maybe they would be OK with some of them being the little plastic figurines... you could make them prizes for the kids to pick their own cupcake or something... that would minimize the number of ones you have to create.

Yes, the horses are fondant with tylose mixed in. I just ook one of my son's plastic horse toys and modeled it after that.
My other choice was to do them as cookies.
I bought a horse cookie cutter, and was just going to bend the leg.

In the end I went with molding them. They were easier than i thought , and were good and hard in 2-3 days.

What if you did choc. tranfers of a few animals, like horses, zebra...elephants, they only take minutes to dry and are easy to attatche to a sucker stick. And the bonus is that they will be eaten and your hard work won't be picked off and thrown away.

I remember seeing in the galleries a long time ago someone used small colored chocolate animals "glued" to those swirled candy sticks. They were simple flat animals made with a chocolate candy mold and colored melts. You could then stripe your pastry bag and swirl a buttercream top on your cupcakes giving the effect of a carousel top. Add the animals and you're done. I actually bought this same mold at Michaels, but that was awhile ago. I'm sorry I can't find the photo in the galleries.
