It is a mixture of corn syrup and the candy coatings. The chocolate I've used instead of brown fondant on cakes (stripes, circles, bows etc). I'm using it this weekend to make a gamecock logo for a cake- can build it up piece by piece. Can use with the cutters also (letters, numbers etc.)

I love chocolate/candy clay!! It is so fun to work with. It can be rolled like fondant, but has the strength to hold it's own weight (i.e. it doesn't have to be draped on a cake). You can check my photos and see a cake "wrapped" in embossed candy clay (it's the one with the strawberries on top). Have fun, it's a great medium!

the shushi cake in my photos has candy clay .. it is the tuna, salmon, shrimp, shushi,etc.. i made it for my nephew.. he said of all the cakes i had made him for his birthdays. this was the best one yet. i used candy clay mixed with fondant.. as per jennifer dontz.. yesterday on a first birthday cake. haven,t posted pictures yet of that one.. i take a girls demo each year at ices convention.. that is all she uses.. and makes beautiful flowers for her customers to have for their cakes..

Fourthwife,
What chocolate candy clay recipe do you use? I am so impressed with your cakes.

Thanks,

Thank you for your nice comments about my cake! I used the candy clay recipe posted on this site. As I recall it's one bag candy melts and 1/3 cup corn syrup. It's really easy to work with and I've had excellent results. I've also duplicated that same cake but in white chocolate. I actually prefer it in white, but neglected to take a photo of it (forgot my camera!) You can fill the top with cherries, strawberries or even beautiful pink roses. Thanks again for the compliments.
