If it is ribbon that will be affected by grease soaking into it, line the back with clear contact paper. Cut off excess. Chill the tier you are wrapping it around. The stiffness of the ribbon will make that ribbon lay perfectly flat against the cake!

I have been hoping to get some tips on this as well. Are there any tips for attatching at the 'seam?' If you are doing it over buttercream, do you need to add anything to 'glue' it to the cake?

A teeny dab of BC will do it, or you can pull back the ribbon a bit once you meet the original seam and cut it very close to where the two will meet "seamlessly"...if that makes any sense. That is what I do. With tiny, very sharp scissors!
