Maisie, you should go for it. I love hearing about other's plans. It inspires me :)

Great Cheese cake Marvel. I love the mice :D

I (so generously) got my husband a card :) He bought me a guide book on LA as we might go there in August....and a new 'phone....he updated his 'phone this week and I really can't get on with his old smart 'phone (from about 3 years ago) as it slides off and half the time won't let me answer a call!!! So this is a totally basic Nokia with a keypad. I only ever use it for texts and calls so I can't be doing with all the Apps....being dragged Kicking and Screaming into the new century springs to mind! ~ only 15 years into it!

This morning on the drive into work Driving Licences were mentioned on the radio...at which point I start to think that it's 10 years this year that I passed my driving test so my photocard must be nearing it's expiry, as I got it to sit my theory test. Even when I changed address they didn't change it's expiry....so I had to just check my card and thankfully it expires in May.....I was driving thinking...am I actually legal here??

It's my Father inlaws birthday tomorrow and I haven't done a cake yet....I did tell my Mother in law he might not get it until Monday or Tuesday with me being at work today. I invested in a jar of vanilla paste last week..(I've only ever used liquid extract from a small bottle.) I made a test batch on Thursday and whilst I couldn't get them out of the silicon pan...the remnants tasted lovely....so it looks that's my way to go :)

Hubby has just started to cook the steak :D

Roxy, yap wafer paper. I love it! You could throw it and it doesn't break :-D

Kathy, it really isn't too hard once you get the hang of it. It's just a bit fiddly and you still need almost everything you'd need if you were making sugar flowers. So I bought polystyrene balls for it. I could have done with circle punchers but you need several sizes so I didn't bother. Just cut by hand.

Spireite, trip to LA sounds nice! I went with my eldest when I was 10weeks pregnant with Mia. The trip was already booked, and I didn't think I'd pregnant so quickly when we did decide to have a baby. So long story short, I didn't get to go on any rollercoasters :-(

AHaha spirelite, wait til you get your new license with your new photo, it's a shock to the system to see yourself age ten years practically overnight! I've been driving 24 years now, I've only got 3 years left on my hgv license, even tho I don't use it anymore I'm gona be very sad to see it go. :-( Oh you're making feel very old today, I just realised I got my first ever mobile to go to Birmingham nearly 16 years ago when Leah was a baby. She was going for a heart operation and I wanted to be able to ring my son who was 4 at the time and staying with my sister, he'd never been away from me overnight before and I thought he'd miss me. He didn't, she had to drag him away from his cousins everytime I phoned and he didn't ask to ring me once!

Aw Kathy, I didn't want to be right! That's boys for you tho! I remember you saying about that work competition, I think it's better to win it for taste than decoration, cake is food after all, it should be a yummy treat.

I meant to say earlier, "scoping out the competition" did make me laugh Kuuushi!

I meant to say something else earlier but it's gone again, it'll come back to me I expect.

Roxy that's probably my favourite cake I've made. Or one of them at least.

Do you think it's enough tho? And my flower is a bit amateur. And if they're going to be tasting them would I be better off making different flavours? And if I do I'm not convinced my chocolate cake is much good so should I try a new recipe? I was thinking of a St David's day theme but it's not very inspiring. Red, green, white, daffodils, leeks, dragons, and welsh dolls. I can't think of a thing to do to make those go together, let alone how I'd make them!

AMaisie is it a three tier cake?

If it was me I would do each tier like a Welsh Lady. So the bottom tier a skirt with a lacey pinny on top of it. Then the middle tier the top of the pinny with the shawl and the top tier a Welsh bonnet with a daffodil and leak popping out of the pinny pocket?

AOh I do like that Kuushi, I think it would be challenging but doable. It's got to be two tier tho. How about the bottom the skirt and pinny, top the shawl and a hat on top. But the witch hat shape instead of the bonnet shape so it sits flat on the cake. Would that look naff?

AHi nanny. I was hoping you'd pop up. :-) Have you got a daffodil cutter and are they easy to do? And, could I use one of my blossom art cutters for violets do you think? Either the petunia or the blossom. They look similar enough to me. I'm considering a Mother's Day theme seeing as it's the same month and my mams Sunday school used to give the kids a bunch of violets to take home to their mothers on Mother's Day. I love Kuuushi's idea but I need a plan b! :-D What cake are you making? Oh and you should enter the competition too, it's not far from you.

Yes maisie, the metal ones are the best, but I have the plastic ones.

This cake was for an exercise last yr, the daffs are easy when you get the hang of it.

I'm making a cake with a red double decker bus and 6 cupcakes, it wasn't easy and I not sure I like it y et, but I ain't doing it again that's for sure.

Where's the competition maisie?

AOh yay! That was well received! :-D

It's at beechwood house in beechwood park, Chepstow road newport. The event is 11-1pm but cakes have to be there by 10.45. There's an email address or phone number to register, (I've sent the email, yikes!) they have to be minimum 9 inches diameter, two tiers, sponge, any flavour, decoration: "let your imagination go wild".

Kuuushi, don't worry, I'll let you have my welsh costume design! :-D

And nanny you could enter that daffodil cake, it's beautiful!

Tiddy, oh tiddy...... :-D

Bus sounds fun nanny, I'm sure it'll be fab.

AGlad you decided to go for it maisie! And maybe you too Kelsey and nanny! Can't wait to see what you all make.

I finally finished my valentines cake. Had to rush it in the end as I didn't get home until much later than planned today. Kind of made the design up as I went along with SP I already had precoloured. Not sure the colours all completely go together with the toppers but oh well my other half likes it!

Lovely daffodil cake Nanny, looking forward to seeing the bus cake.

Cute cake Sugarluva and I think the colours go well together it makes the toppers stand out.

Looking forward to see what you all come up with for the competition.

Petitecat I know you have been looking at getting The mat for a while like I have, I just can't bring myself to spend £40 on  two sheets of pvc. Look what I came across today just by chance, they are slightly smaller than the home mat at 20". I think I might give one a try it will big enough for my needs at the moment and is only £10.

AMorning all. Been awake since 5, grrrrr.

Cupcakes are in the oven, made extra as we having a comic relief bake off on Fri, was gonna do some caramel cupcakes, ok to freeze them first, no topping obviously?

Days mapped out for me.

Finish cake. Decorate cuppies. Make spicy beef stew. Watch the Welsh match. Take cake over. Have tea. Iron work clothes. Fall into bed.

Thankfully I haven't any cakes for 2 weeks, so tues/wed gonna paint the kitchen, no rest for the wicked!

AMorning all. :-)

Blimey nanny, you're a busy little bee! Cakes will be fine in the freezer, in fact the cupcakes I made my niece last year had to go in the freezer and her teachers were raving about them. What colour are you painting your kitchen? I've been thinking about painting my bedroom, it fills me with dread tho, I don't enjoy decorating at all.

Your cake is lovely Nicola, pink and green go well together and the bugs are so cute.

AMaisie I'm glad you've decided to enter the competition you'll do great and I think your "signature" cake turned into a two tier would be great.

Kelsey and nanny you should both enter too.

Jean lovely flowers.

Kathy I agree with the others they were obviously jealous of your talents which is why they didn't say anything about your cake. You were asked because they thought you'd do a great job.

Marvel great cheesecake, it looks like a fun cake that one.

Hi Jo it sounds busy, busy, busy at your house. Hope your ok and work is ok too.

Lovely daffodil cake nanny, I'm looking forward to seeing this on the buses cake. Hope you sit down for a nice rest tonight after your busy day.

Sugarluva your bug cake is lovely and I think the colours work well.

Well I made cupcakes yesterday in three different flavours as a Valentine's treat, first baking I've done this year. I haven't taken pictures yet as the lighting wasn't good by the time I'd finished them will take some today and post a picture later. I ended up over baking red velvets though, I was halving the recipe I was using as didn't want loads and loads of cupcakes, I was fine all the way through and the mixture looked spot on, right at the end adding the buttermilk I added the whole amount I actually screamed, lol, so quickly had to make more mixture and then add it altogether. Luckily though they came out lovely and a very vivid red colour. I've freeze the extra cupcakes so next time my daughter has a bake sale or we have one at school I'll pull them out for that. So nanny I think your cupcakes will be fine to freeze uniced.

We ended up going out last night for our meal, we went to a lovely Italian and had antipasti to share and then I had a creamy mushroom pasta dish and oh had pizza. I didn't have dessert though as nothing took my fancy on the menu and I had my cupcakes at home anyway. Also other half surprised me with a Valentine's set from moon pig, all yesterday morning he was saying "oh I'll go and get you something in a bit, is it after 12 or 5 they reduce things?" But then the delivery guy came with a package for me and I was so chuffed, I suppose it shows he can be romantic after all. I bought him a tshirt and a gigantic tub of jellybeans.

Morning all!  You've been a chatty bunch!  Loads to catch up on.

The choc cakes posted both look delish.

The wafer paper flowers are fantastic...  I've never tried anything with wafer paper other than a couple of 'feathers' wedding cakes. But nothing creative like flowers.  They're beautiful and have a real delicacy about them.

Kuushi - how on earth do you stick to such a rigid diet?  I could never do it.  You're very good and must have a lot of willpower!

Mr B - I like the cute cheese cake!

Suga - cute toppers on the cake! Reminds me of something but I can't think what...  some cute teddies maybe?  Or children's characters?  Can't think what, but love them anyway.

Nanny - what gorgeous flower displays on your cake!  That's something I've never done - arrange sugar flowers.  I just plonk down general un-wired roses!

Maisie - DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!!!

Hope everyone is well and you enjoy the rest of the weekend! x x x

AHi all. Well just finished and added the cupcakes.

Thanks loubee, don't want to do it again though.

Thank you suzanne, it was why I went to Cake decorating classes in the first place, I could make flowers, roses etc, just didn't know how to wire anything properly, this was the first time to make the sprays in class and it took up probably about 6 weeks in all, yes I know it's a long time but there were so many skill levels in that class, from people who could even bake a cake to ones that were fairly advanced.

I love it when I finished and got top marks, really pleased with it.
