AOoh Nanny thats a lovely cake, the jewellery looks really good, love the black/white/pink combo! And the bottom detail is really pretty too, is that a mould? Did you make the 60 letters too? Very effective!

ROFL Suzanne me too - I dislocated my knee once (not on purpose I hasten to add LOL!) when I got to about 15-6yrs which got me out of ALOT of lessons ha ha! I swear they were awful teachers though, I have vivid memories of passing out after they made us do the 1500m in sweltering heat......hated running ever since! Although the dodgy knees dont help with that either.....

Oooh hes being very good not letting on then LOL! They are all so awful though, total cringe-tv, but you cant not watch it!

Right, emails all done now, so I'm off to have a crack at this chocolate...........(wait half an hour for the 'oooh it all went wrong' post)

No I think it is a nice pink - some pinks can be a bit "sugary" which is fine for little girls but not so good for us more mature girlies. You nailed it!

ANo Mel not so much a mould, they are hard plastic cutters which comes with a cutter to go over the top, pack of about 4 different designs. The 60, I rolled out some sp with sugarcel in it and just twirled it into the 60.

AHappy birthday Roxy. X Lovely presents, I love the bracelet. Isn't it lovely when they get old enough to buy or make you presents, they're tge best presents in the world aren't they. Amazing cake!!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! How on earth did you do it? If that doesn't go into favourites I'll be very surprised.

Beautiful cake nanny, gorgeous pink and I love the board.

Poor Lizzy with your building troubles, I'd be ready to throttle somebody by now, you must have the patience of a saint.

Ahhh, that explains all the excercising Suzanne! Until you mentioned dress shopping I thought you just enjoyed it! :-)

Sorry to hear about your sister and gutted your mam is still so bad Lynne. I don't even know what to say to try to make you feel better cos nothing will. Except we're all thinking of her and praying she gets better soon. X

Welcome to the thread Ellie. :-)

Hope everyone's poorly children get well soon, hope everyone else is ok. Sorry if I've missed anyone but my head is pounding, tooth is killing, ear is aching, gland and jaw is swollen. I feel terrible, even my eye is aching so I'm off for another little stooze before Leah comes home. :-)

Sorry ladies my friend called with a bunch of flowers for me and then my mum called with pressies. She has ordered me some boots but they haven't arrived yet and got me a lovely pocahontas note book as she remembered I had one when I was younger and loved it, a big box of maltesars and £20 in a card. She also bought me an asda chocolate birthday cake.

Here are some pics I took while making the minion cake and I will try to explain as best I can. I probably won't make much sense so just ask me if something doesn't.

12" cake board and 3x4" smaller boards that I cut out. Straws from ikea, washers, a nut and that screw thing which I don't know the name for lol.The metal rod is from B and Q and was twice the length, I worked out how long I needed it and cut it with a hacksaw and pliers ( you hubby's will probably have better tools than I have for that). Drill a hole in the board where you want the rod to be just big enough for the rod to go through.I made a recess in the underneath of the board so the head of the screw thing sat in that so the board was level. Work out where you want your holes on the smaller boards and drill them the same just to fit the rod through.

I attached the rod to the board with the screw thing underneath, and the washers and nut on top as tight as possible then I completely wrapped the rod and nut etc in cling film which wasn't easy as it didn't want to stick.

I thought I'd took a photo of the next step but I must have forgotten so I will explain and hopefully you will understand.

I put the cakes on the boards layered with buttercream ( I realised later on that I shouldn't have buttercreamed the top layer of the third cake on at this point until I had done the next step, so I had to take the top layer off and put it back on when the straw was in the cake ).

Starting with the bottom gently fed the first cake onto the rod (have something on the board to account for the feet, one of which will be around the rod to cover it),  put a straw down over the rod and straight into the cake until I hit the board and marked where I needed to cut the straw as this would be covered in Sp for one of the legs, took the cake off with the straw still in it and cut the straw to the correct length. I then held the bottom of the rod and got Mr Roxy to bend the top of the rod slightly to an angle I was happy with, then gently put the bottom cake back on and do the same with the second cake. With the third cake the straw was pushed into the cake and cut so it is hidden inside and then I buttercreamed  the top layer of cake on. Am I making sense so far?

After you have them all with the straws in take all the cakes off and cover the board and cakes in SP. Do not make the mistake of thinking like I did it will be easier to remove the straw ,Sp and put it back in, this does not work and nearly caused a total disaster.

You can see in the photos the first cake on the rod and the straw above it covered with Sp to look like a leg and shoe. then the second cake was added ( the straw hadn't gone down properly when I took the photo but it was short like on the first cake) and the third. The arms have skewers through them to hold them in the cakes. I did a lot of the decorating when the cakes were stacked but would recommend doing it before stacking them. Add the ribbon and done.

AOoh Maisie poor you, hope you had a nice nap and are feeling a little better x

Well so far the choc looks ok. The melts didn't melt to 'runny' single cream consistency though, more like thick double cream but then I think that's just how the Wilton ones go sometimes! I hardly mixed in the corn syrup at all, a few stirs to get it in and it looked like it was starting to curdle a little, so I stopped stirring and have just left it to sit in the cling film to set. Fingers crossed it's worked though...will update later :-)

ARoxy, just a wee question about your cake (sorry, thick moment!) What's holding the upper two cakes up? Just the shoes and straw?

Lol I have loads of thick moments. Yes the rod goes right through the cake and the boards the cakes are sitting on rest on the straws. I did it with straws as my cakes were small only 4" but if doing bigger cakes you would have to get a thicker rod and use the plastic hollow dowels or pvc piping. This is what I based the structure on but on a much smaller scale.

I will be... once I've decided what!  I want to start soaking fruit soon, but I'm not even sure if I'm doing a round or square!  I feel probably a square one, as my elder son had round!  Plus, as the party theme is Monopoly, that lends itself more to a square cake!

The bottom tier will be fruit and then any more tiers will be dummies!  I'm not working on cake the day before the BM!!!!  :D

I don't want a "full-on" themed cake.  But it DOES need a nod to the party theme.  I'm coming up completely blank though.

Any design ideas welcome!!

Definitely thinking about making head and arms of the Monopoly character 'Rich Uncle Pennybags' from Rice Krispie Treats and having him bursting out the top tier?  Thing is, I always think that especially as it's a big occasion and making cakes is what I DO, people expect a 'wow' cake?!!

I click in the box, where the quote is, and just delete what I don't want!!

Right.  Here's what I've got so far...  LOL!!  I'll peel back the sugarpaste around the character, so it looks like he's bursting out of the cake...  But I don't *really* want to go down the route of making Monopoly cards to go around the sides of the tiers.  It's too 'obvious'.

Suggestions, folks???

AModelling choc was not made for anything specific, just an experiment LOL I used corn syrup Roxy, I buy some groceries from an online USA store, so get it from there with all my other bits so it's not as expensive.

Here's a very quickly made rose, hubby came home and I thought I'd better start dinner instead of playing with the MC all evening ;)

Ooh I forgot your cake was Monopoly themed, love the shape! How about random images from the game around the edge, money symbols and paper money, the player pieces maybe would look fab! If you are doing a London themed one, maybe some silhouettes of iconic buildings?

Could you do it so it looks like lots of Monopoly money overlapping each other? Community Chest and Chance cards? Maybe do different things on each tier... I really like the idea of him bursting out of the top of the cake though.

I couldn't figure out how you had done it until I read your instructions. It really is fantastic I would love to give it a go. I just know I'd end up with a mush if I tied it though.

Happy birthday too roxy!

Suzanne that's what I do delete everything I don't want out of the box but thought maybe there was an easier way and I was being a bit thick lol. Love the idea of the monopoly man bursting out of the cake it will look fab, are you planning on doing the original monopoly board theme on it or another one as there are so many now, is there one your son especially likes. The sweet shop down the road from me sells wafer paper money all different colours in a pack maybe you could get something like that to put about the board.

Thanks Sock Monkey, I remember you were cutting out something but can't remember what gluten maybe, how's it going?

Nice rose Mel, always someone coming in spoiling our cakey fun isn't there. How was the MC to work with does it melt when you are working with it?

Thanks Sugarluva. I'm sure you would easily be able to make one If I can manage it all of you lot certainly can.

Mr Roxy got me some new cakey stuff for my birthday of course I had to what to get. He got me a new cake leveller, mat and a cake tester which he got himself without me mentioning it. He also got me perfume, chocolates, flowers and put money in my card and cooked me tea.
