I have a bride that wants these on her cake. They are holly. Does anyone know if they are safe to be inserted into the cake??
Thanks in advance!
here is what I have found on wikipedia:
"Holly berries are mildly toxic and will cause vomiting and/or diarrhea when ingested by people"
Does that mean you can't put Holly on cake? no, but I'd be careful and make sure it doesn't touch it just to be on the safe side.
oh, and my mother had holly bushes and that stuff is very painful to handle, very prickley and very stiff/hard branches, not sure how easy it would be to decorate with. maybe go with fake or gumpaste:
soemthing like Tuggy did here:

Good luck with your cake!
Yeah, apparently it's not so good for us humans...
So this is the cake she wants...
I'm just planning to substitute the winterberry for the red roses. I've never done GP flowers, so I don't think I want to do that. Do you think fake/silk flowers would still look ok?
TIA!
