I need help with a baby shower cake I have to do this weekend. I am making a 10" round cake with a ladybug on top (made out of cake). The ladybug will take up the bulk of the top of the cake.

My initial thought, and what I explained to the client, is that I would put different colored flowers on the sides of the cake and the writing she want on the cake board. The round cake with be in BC and ladybug in MMF. When I explained what I would do she said okay, but make it look like a baby shower cake.

Any suggestions on how to make this more baby-ish? I thought maybe some butterflies, maybe a pair of gumpaste booties to sit on the board, I just don't know if the booties would look out of place.

All suggestions/ideas are welcome!!!

TIA

My first thought would be to do it in really soft colors. Make the ladybug a red-pink with gray spots, instead of bright red and black. Make the flowers & stems in pastel colors. I'm thinking of colors like Precious Moments Figurines.

In my photos I have a ladybug cake that I did. I used the red/black ladybugs and daisies. It was made to match the nursery.

I would look up the lady bug nursery design and make the cake with those designs and colors. My son recently had a new baby and that is how their nursery is designed.
