Im wanting TO make gumpaste/fondant balls as a border for a 3 tier topsy turvy cake.. Im in a pinch with time... Can I make the balls ahead of time to put on the cake and if so, How do I keep them from flattening? or does it matter if one side is flat?? TIA
Yes, you can make them way ahead of time. If they're small they won't flatten much. Setting them on a soft piece of foam--especially eggcrate foam--will help. Large balls can be placed in an egg carton, but it sounds like you're not making them that big. Have fun!
You can definitely make them ahead of time. If you have a flattened side, you could put that towards the cake to make them flush? I'm not sure how to keep it from flattening, but I'm sure the cake decorating genius's will come up with an answer
i've made them ahead of time before, i just put them i a container of corn flour, make it about 1/2 inch thick and they won't flatten. you can leave the lid off to help them dry or if you want softer balls, put an airtight lid on. they'll keep. At least mine did - i read the tips here on CC somewhere.
hope that helps!
