i did a barnyard cake last night. i made the silo out of cookies w/ a dowel rod down the middle, it started to lean so i shoved another dowel rod down the middle. i put it in the fridge overnight when i cked it this AM, the silo was totally leaning pulling icing up off the cake. i took it off. please help me fix it
1) can i dig out the cake where the silo was and stick it in there w/ icing?
2) do i have to start over and make another silo out of rice krispie treats? the only issue w/ this is that i dont think i have enough icing and i will have to make more and the colors wont match!
please help me, i dont want to spend all day doing this it is my birthday icon_smile.gif
thx so much

I'm thinking your silo is too heavy. I would deliver the cake without the silo take some extra icing and when I get there stick the silo down in the cake some then dam it with icing. Just an idea. I really dont know but that's what I would do. Good luck.

I can't see the pic, but I think I know what you're talking about. Did you drive the dowel through the cookies AND through the base board? If not, your silo has no support and will continue to fall over until you anchor it to the base board.

What if you just make the silo shorter so that it's not has heavy and unbalanced? icon_sad.gif

First: Happy Birthday!

Second: Does the silo stand on it's own if you set it on the counter? If so, then digging out cake (down to the base board) and damming it with very stiff BC would probably hold up. If not, then you might risk the silo falling over and taking the edge of the cake with it... what did you hold it together with? I would think RI owuld have been best because it would guarantee no "shifting"

Can you do without the silo altogether?

(and it's a shame your silo is leaning, becuse the cake is really cake s you photographed it!)

I can't see the pic. What if you treated the silo like another tier, which essentailly what it is. Take the silo off, and put some level dowels under it, just like you would w/ another tier.
