I got a request for a cake like the attatched picture. I was wondering if anybody could help me with construction ideas, and maybe pricing. I need it to feed about 25 people.

My original thought was a wonder mold pan and a sports ball pan, with rice krispy treats for arms and legs....or should I somehow use the stand up bear pan? Plus, I don't know how to price it.

I would appreciate any advice, thanks in advance!

I've never attempted anything like this, so all I can do is give you a bump! Maybe now that the site is running a little better you'll get some answers.

Well, my Wilton Cake Instructor is a professional cake sculptor....I could give her the pic and see what her advice is. BUT, the next class isn't until next Monday the 15th. I don't know if you can wait that long.

I would sculpt out of rice krispie treats and pound cake....100 bucks at least! Post pics!

I think the stand up bear pan could work nicely ...you'd have to do some plastic surgery on him though.....I'd chop his ears off and place them lower maybe using toothpicks or a skewer to hold em in there.......then I'd lop off both of his arms (this sounds so mean, but it's necessary lol) and maybe recreate the arms using some wire bent into the necessary shape with some rice krispies molded around it or else do a cake ball type of thing........ your best bet may be to try to cover it in fondant then you could just paint on the details. This won't be any easy task.......good luck and definitely don't undersell yourself on this one!!!! Can't wait to see the end result........I know you can pull it off!!

Good, that's what I thought, too. Nice to know someone agrees with me, I feel loads better. I told her $165. Based on an estimate from 2 9in choco cakes, 4lbs fondant, cake boards. If I had tripled it, it would have come to $200. I was SURE she would laugh at me, and since it would be my first real sculpt job, I lowered the price a little. We'll see if she bites....

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!

I would use two balls of different sizes for the body and head. Use cupcakes with the flat side for the feet. Use fondant to cover the whole thing and for the arms, ears and legs. Also, as previously suggested, paint on the decals/decorations. I wouldn't do this for less than $75 but I like the $100-$125 pricing much better. Be sure to put it on a real pretty cakeboard, perhaps decorated with a ribbon border to accent the colors - I think this will make it worth the price you are asking.

Please post pictures when you're done. Good luck - YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
