i've cut my own stencils for cake themes they like around here...(cowboy boots and stuff)...i just used mylar and an exacto knife...i did have a stencil cutter ...but it didn't give the clean edges i wanted.

i use alot of stencils meant for acrylic paint too.

Do you have any favorite places to find good stencils?

I cut a few with exacto knife, but it hurt my fingers to bear down. No! i'm not a wimp!

i just get ones from the art supply.

they have a few at hobby lobby and micheals where they sell paint.

i use some of them alot like the checkerboard, ..for nascar cakes...plus it can make the top of a cake look like a tablecloth....

i know there prolly alot online....every week i cut disposable ones out of thick paper...use once and throw away...it seems like everyone wants something different....

did i ever tell you i used to paint for a living?

heres something i did a few years ago on the corner wall of my shop....i'm wanting to learn more about painting on cakes....maybe that could be my "calling card" for higher end business.

Joann's carries nice stencils in their art department but I don't recall the brand names. I used a rose stencil of theirs for this pleated stenciled fondant cake.
