I want to make a square basket to lay on it's side on a cake and I was going to put miniature fruit pouring out of it(combination of ideas from cc-thanks!). I thought I would use mmf for the basket, but how do I do this. Do I make a mould and put the strips of fondant over it and let it harden before putting it on the cake? And dumb question, can I just use my regular wooden rolling pin and a knife to cut the strips? If I wanted to use a miniature square cake and put the fondant over it does it harden? Is there anything else I have to do to the cake before I put the fondant on?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I read alot of the fondant posts, but didn't really find my answers. I need to figure out how to do more specific searches. Thanks everyone is so helpful here and I'm having so much fun!

If you are making just a open basket you can use soft foam. As far as cake the cake should be iced as you would normally do and then apply the strips. Depending on the climate they can get dry if low hunidity. I refridgerate all my cakes because they are perishable.
You can just use a rolling pin and knife-I find a pizza roller to be the best!
