I am seriously looking into it. I checked with the health dpt and zoning, so I'm good there as long as I follow the guidelines. My kitchen rental situation is looking suspect. So anyway, if you have done it or are thinking about it I would love to hear your thoughts. icon_biggrin.gif

Try searching this site, I remember some cool pics of conversions on here.

HI,
I have converted my garage. It was a very long process but I'm almost done! One thing I learned is to check out the codes rules before hand.

My city actually required us to use certified electricians, BUT,... we actually did the work ourselves. We just diden't tell them in advance............sometimes you have to be sneeky. icon_lol.gif Once the work was done there was nothing they could say about it as long as it passed codes. thumbs_up.gif . Electricians are very expensive.

Check out all the rules and make sure it is very clear before you invest a ton of money. Start with the health dept or city hall.

Good luck.

We converted our old tobacco barn, after the buyout we needed to make money somehow and the fsa office gave me a grant to do it with and our buy out money paid for most of it. We poured concrete all the way around the barn for the floor and had concrete knee wall poured 2 feet all the way around the barn keeps the bugs and rodents out. Then went to several auctions and discount stores, the goodwill and Salvation Army for equipment. You will be surprised what you find there! I found over 100 wilt on tips at the goodwill for only $7.50 some where brand new the other put them in the dishwasher on sanitize that worked to clean them up. Yardsales are another place to find great deals! But if you are serious I would check into it. It is totally worth becoming legal and getting a licensed and it will not cost as much if you are a bargain shopper.
