Hello - I have been doing a lot with fondant lately and I usually use the Wilton buttercream recipe as a base, but there has to be something that tastes better out there. Basically, I am tired of this recipe! What else tastes really good and will hold up well under fondant? Any flavors would be appreciated, but especially vanilla, white chocolate and regular/dark chocolate.

Can't help much as I usually use the Wilton BC. I really like the Whimsical Bakehouse BC but, I have never tried it under fondant.

I lvoe the Buttercream Dream recipe here. I will NEVER go back to the Wilton buttercream.

The Buttercream Dream is less "heavy" tasting.

I second the Buttercream Dream recipe. I have been using it since I found it on this site in June. The nice thing is that you can use more butter and no shortening if you like. I know some people are particular about shortening in frostings. I did it for a cake last weekend and it worked out great.

I will throw in that using hi ratio shortening makes a big difference in the taste, and I often use different flavorings, and even combine them, too - vanilla and almond are great.

For chocolate, I get great reviews on the chocolate syrup frosting from this site.

Have fun with the experimenting. I think I will follow suit and try the whimsical bc this weekend myself.

Thanks all - I will try the Buttercream Dream next time and see how it turns out. I also went and checked out a book and there seem to be some good recipes in there. I'll let you know!
